Tuks FM supports drive for underprivileged UP students

Tuks FM is encouraging the community to support an initiative which aims to address the plight of underprivileged students of the University of Pretoria (UP).

The initiative , which is overseen by UP’s Unit for Community Engagement and TuksRAG, includes a blanket drive, in which blankets and clothing are collected for needy students ahead of the cold winter months.

Gernia van Niekerk, Manager of the Unit for Community Engagement, says they also collect food and toiletries, and accept cash donations from the public: “We need blankets soon for the winter, which is just around the corner. We also need windbreakers for men and women; winter clothing (jerseys, jeans, tekkies etc.) for men in sizes 30-34 and for women in size 34. These can be delivered to the University of Pretoria at the IT Building, Rooms 2-88 or 2-9 to 2-95. For any further information you can contact Albert at 082 908 3345.”

Van Niekerk says groceries they typically need include:

  • Two minute noodles;
  • Cup-a-soup;
  • Future life porridge;
  • Peanut butter;
  • 3-in 1 coffee mix; and
  • Standard toiletries for men and women.

Meat, fresh fruit and vegetables can be delivered to the Engen Garage in Pretoius Street, 1303. For more details on this, contact Simon Beukes on 0813404278.
