Tuks FM will officially launch a brand new programme line-up on 1 May 2018.
The station has already brought about mass changes to its sound after undergoing a full format change in April. This involved changing the music Tuks FM plays to bring the station more in line with the youth market. The station now plays a mix of Hip Hop, EDM (Electronic Dance Music), Pop and Alternative music.
Tuks FM’s Programme Manager, Mike Bower, says the changes in the line-up include specialist programming and changes to the news schedule. “We will have a 30-minute “talk segment” every day between 13:00 and 13:30 which will focus on different themes. For instance, Wednesday’s segment, called ‘Hot Topic’, will feature a series of topics aimed directly at the youth of Pretoria. During this slot, Tuks FM will unearth the issues our listeners would like to discuss.”
Bower says there is also specialist programming every evening between 18:00 and 19:00. “Wednesday evenings will feature the best local and international Hip Hop, while Fridays will see a DJ coming in to studio and mixing live on air. The aim here is to send the message that Tuks FM is for the youth, by the youth and about the youth. We want our listeners to be engaged and entertained by what we offer on air, and the new line-up will do exactly that.”
“Tuks FM finds itself in a very unique situation at the moment. We have the ability to build and mould the listening habits of a completely new generation of listeners. Drawing on the trends we have built as a station, I feel we could build Tuks FM into a powerhouse of young, fresh-thinking people, who lead in broadcasting,” he adds.
Tuks FM will also host a relaunch event at 012 Central on 25 May. Station Manager, Leanne Kunz, says they have partnered with an established brand, Kings of the Commune, for the relaunch, which is all about telling listeners and potential listeners what the new Tuks FM is about. “Tuks FM is undergoing a complete re-branding in terms of who the station speaks to and who we are trying to target. It is critical that we create brand awareness by aligning ourselves with brands that speak to the new direction we are moving in. Now is the time to make our mark as a young, fresh, relevant source of information and entertainment.”
Check out Tuks FM’s social media pages for further details of the relaunch event, which features DJs including Bruce Loko and Abby Nurock for an electronic dance music extravaganza!
There will also be posters on all UP campuses from early May.
