June marked a proud chapter for Tuks FM as several of its student volunteers showcased their talents across leading South African media platforms during Youth Month. In true celebration of the voices and potential of young people, Tuks FM’s presence extended far beyond its usual airwaves.

Newsreader Walter Ernst stepped up to co-host the Drive Show on Jacaranda FM, bringing his signature energy and professionalism to a wider audience. Meanwhile, fellow newsreader Rorisang Makhoana-Madzhie made her mark on television, co-anchoring AM Live on Newzroom Afrika on Youth Day.

Youth Day also saw Tuks FM presenter Zanele Ndala bring her flair to Radio 2000, where she co-hosted the Midmorning Show, adding fresh perspective to the national station’s lineup. On the sports front, Gerhard Maritz, one of Tuks FM’s rising sports presenters, joined Relebogile Mabotja as a guest co-host on 702 Afternoons, offering youthful insights and engaging commentary on a talk radio platform.

These moments reflect not only the immense talent nurtured at Tuks FM but also the importance of giving young broadcasters a chance to grow, be heard, and be mentored in professional environments. As a station, we are incredibly proud of all our volunteers who represented Tuks FM and the University of Pretoria with excellence, authenticity, and passion.

We also extend heartfelt gratitude to Jacaranda FM, Newzroom Afrika, Radio 2000, and 702 for opening their doors to emerging talent. These opportunities are important in shaping the future of South African broadcasting, and in affirming the powerful role that campus radio continues to play in developing the media professionals of tomorrow.
